Let us crave for Him

Priest Constantin Sturzu

Food is an act which can make us get closer to God and our fellow men or farther from them.

In itself any restrain, any ascetic performance doesn`t mean anything.

The apostles were condemned once that they didn`t fast but the Saviour explained why : “How can the guests of the bridegroom mourn while he is with them? The time will come when the bridegroom will be taken from them; then they will fast. (Matthew 9, 15).

We fast to regain God to be freer to unite with Him.

Our heart is much more easily turned towards prayer when we eat a little and only light food.

This should be the reason why we renounce at certain victuals and not that something would be wrong with them.

We don`t need any pseudo-argument for fasting and refraining.

The longing for God alone is enough.

Let us crave for Him !
