A priest visited a monastery where were housed many orphans and poor children. One of the nuns who were responsible for them, overwhelmed by despondency told the priest that the victuals had alarmingly dwindled and the children began to starve. She added that they had a silver plate they had kept for the hard times to come. Now they needed food and clothes for the children.
The priest listened carefully, saw her concern and said:
“Give me the silver, to use it in the best way.”
The nun put it in his hands without any hesitation. And the priest, without saying anything opened the window and threw it as far as he could.
The nun remained stunned and gasped, without being able to utter a single word.
“Now throw all your worries to God!” the priest said.
In a short time at the monastery they received gifts from known and unknown people, food and money.
