A wise elder asked his disciples :
`How do you know that the night ended and the day begins?`
`I tell you` a disciple rushed to answer. When you can distinguish from a distance the dog from the sheep!`
`No`, answered the elder.
`The beginning of the day may be when seeing a tree from a distance, you can tell if it`s a peach tree or a fig tree`, said another one.
`No`, insisted the elder.
`Then how could we know?` the disciples cried.
`When looking at a man in his face we can see a brother in him! Otherwise any hour of the day might be, it is always night.`
