Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, the One Born from the Father before ever, Who willingly received death on the Cross for the salvation of mankind and like a lamb mute with the one who stabs Him, You didn`t open Your mouth; as on the Cross being crucified between the two robbers and receiving the offences from the hostile men, You raised Your eyes towards heaven and You prayed with kindness:

`Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.`

You, Lord, taught us not to stand against the bad one and said :

If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to him the other one also.`

In the same way You commanded us saying : `Love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hurt you and persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.`

You, kindest King look at me, Your unworthy servant and give me strength so that I may not anger against my enemy and I may not return his blows in revenge, for the Lord says `I will make revenge myself` and to us, the creatures made according to Your image and likeness, You commanded `do not let the sun go down while you are still angry` and not to bring gifts to Your holy altars until we have reconciled first with those who are in dissensions with us.

You, Who in the bright and holy Lord`s prayer teach us to pray by  saying: `And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us` help me, Lord that according to Your words to repay with good those who hate me, those who harm me and those who persecute me.

Give them, Lord, Your peace and enlighten their mind to know You and Your commandments, purify their heart and soften it so that they may see their mistakes and repent for their injustices. Do not leave them, God, in error and sin!

Send them Your blessing so that they may return and save their souls and be alive in Your Kingdom!

And give me, Lord, the spirit of purity, of humble thought, of patience and love, so that I may always peacefully and joyfully say to You `Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive to those who trespass us.` Amen
