Words and stories of elder Paisios (II)

A bit of spiritual study and a lot of prayer with the rosary. At prayer and at the holy services we should participate with all our heart.

*

Once the devil showed up and told me: ”I am Christ, worship me!”. But I answered: ”I always worship Christ. And if you were Christ, you wouldn’t have asked me to worship you”.

*

The monks must honor in a very special way the Entrance of the Theotokos in the Church, because in the same way the Holy Mother of God entered the holy of holies, the monks, by their tonsure enter the holy monastic life.

*

At those who are not spiritually grown, the exterior flightiness shows the inner one.

*

If there is no manliness, there is no growth. Manliness is when you cover yourself completely with the faith in God. Someone like this has manliness, has love and God takes care of him.

*

I heard that the vigil lamp of Theotokos from Iviron is moving. The Holy Mother of God tries to wake us up, to make us repent, but the men of nowadays don’t move at all – don’t come to their senses – no matter how much the vigil lamps would move.

*

When someone is nervous is better not to speak to him at all, not even with kindness, because one like this is like the wounded who doesn’t accept any comfort cause he is peeved by his wounds.

*

The soul and the spirit which are mentioned in the Holy Scripture are not two different things, as  Makrakis said. For instance: „Praise the Lord, my soul and my spirit rejoiced…”.

*

We must not analyze in detail if someone says with simplicity something which is inappropriate from a dogmatic point of view. We must have the good thought, because God will judge in His way.

*

When the man sins, the grace of God goes away from him. When he repents, he comes back to the initial state and cleanses himself completely. But he still has a sign from that spot, though that is cleansed. Or a sign where the iron was fastened so well with the welder that cannot be touched even by the pile.

*

A wizard told me that when he lights a pure wax candle the demons don’t dare to get closer when he invokes them as they do when he lights spermaceti.
